While we may call summer the “dog days,” for many RV’ers every day, any time of the year, is a dog day. In Fact, most RV’ers are dog people (92 percent) and 68 percent report bringing their four-legged babies with them everywhere they travel.  After all, motor homes are a perfect vehicle for traveling with your canine companion.  They offer plenty of room, all the security and comforts of home, and a refreshing change of scenery for everyone.

While most campgrounds around the U.S. go out of their way to make sure pets feel welcome, there are five that go way above and beyond the call.  Offering more than just a place for Fido to stretch his legs, many of the most dog-friendly parks are equipped with extravagant dog parks, ample room to roam, exercise and agility stations, and even washrooms and dog-sitting services.

These five campgrounds all have epic dog parks and treats dogs like the pampered guests they are.

4 Paws Kingdom Campground & Dog Retreat, Rutherfordton, North Carolina

4 Paws is exactly that—for paws!  It’s one of the most unique camgrounds in the country.  It’s location in the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains is stunning and it is the only dog dedicated campground in the U.S.  The campground is built exclusively for dogs and dog owners.  There are amenities like off-leash dark parks (plural), agility park, and a fully-fenced swimming pond.  Some sites even offer fenced in yards so your pet can enjoy being off leash right next to your RV.

Lake George RV Park, Lake George, New York

Charlie’s Bark Park at Lake George RV Park is a spectacular two-acre, off-leash recreation mecca with a beautiful pavilion.  Your dog will want to spend hours in the dog spray fountain.  There is an agility test area where they regularly hold contests, all while their owners luxuriate in comfortable seated and stroll along shaded walking trails.  There’s even a pet treat vending area to cap off Fido’s fun-filled day.

Normandy Farms Campground, Foxboro, Massachusetts

The huge, shady Freedom Trail Park at Normandy Farms Campground is a generous 1.5 acres in size, and offers agility equipment, a dog washing station, and dog-friendly drinking stations.  If you have a smaller dog, there is a separate fenced-in area for dogs that weigh under 30 pounds.  Normandy Farms also offers reasonably priced kennel services at a facility called Canine Coops, in case you want to head out to Cape Cod for a dogless day trip.

Massey’s Landing, Millsboro Delaware

Located near popular Rehoboth Beach, Massey’s Landing has plenty for both dogs and dog lovers to enjoy.  The dog park here is large and situated right on the campground’s bay beach for plenty of sandy, water frolicking.  Be sure to drop by the camp store after a day at dog beach for some dog treats (including dog ice cream) before heading back to the comfort of your RV.

Fancy Gap/Blue Ridge Parkway KOA, Fancy Gap, Virginia

Of course, Fancy Gap has a nice dog park, but really makes this a dog owner favorite is its unique dog-friendly RV sites that feature fenced-in areas behind your parking spot.  The sites are already large and shady, but when you add in the fenced in area, they are huge. Fido stays cool and you’ll feel good knowing he is safe and secure when outside on his own – even on the hottest days.  These special sites are heavily wooded and located on the side on a mountain where temps are typically ten degrees below the lower elevations.
